Controversial Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to shun the
multi-millionaire footballer belt of Cheshire to live in the Manchester
suburbs.
The Swedish icon, 34, and his family is understood to be
looking at renting a property in Heaton Mersey rather than live in the Alderley
Edge area favoured by so many of his team-mates.
And the move is likely to endear Ibrahimovic to United fans
in the same way as they took to Eric Cantona, who lived in a modest home (by
footballer’s standards) in the Manchester suburbs when he first
joined United in 1992.
Ibrahimovic, who has lived in Amsterdam, Turin, Barcelona,
Milan and Paris during his stellar career, has signed a one-year contract worth
around £300,000-a-week after leaving Paris St Germain on a free transfer at the
end of June. .
He is still on holiday in California while
his new United team-mates arrived in China on Tuesday for a two-match tour.
This week Ibrahimovic responded to a comment from Frenchman
Cantona that he will never replace him as the “king” in the eyes of United fans
by claiming he will become “a god” in Manchester instead.
Ibrahimovic’s first game for United is set to be in his
native Sweden on July 30 when Jose Mourinho’s team take on Turkish club
Galatasaray in Gothenburg.
