In a question and answer session with Four Four Two, the
57-year-old revealed it was not his choice to sack assistant manager Wilkins in
2010, insisting the decision was taking out of his hands.
Few managers in world football can rival Ancelotti’s CV and
the Italian has opened up about his two year spell at Stamford Bridge.
Carlo Ancelotti has revealed he was unhappy that Chelsea
sacked Ray Wilkins during his time as boss at Stamford Bridge.
The tactician said the timing of the decision was particularly
detrimental to Chelsea’s progress in that particular campaign.
When asked about what went wrong in his second season at
Chelsea, Ancelotti said, as reported by fourfourtwo:
“We started well, then had
a lot of injuries. We had [John] Terry, [Michael] Essien and Drogba out. I was
not happy with Ray being sacked as it was during the season. I wanted to keep
him.”

Furthermore, Wilkins himself claims he still hasn’t been
given a reason for his dismissal.
Since departing Chelsea,
the 59 year-old Englishman had spells at Fulham, Aston Villa and even a
brief spell as Jordan’s national coach.
The new Bayern Munich boss also opened up about his
relationship with controversial owner Roman Abramovich.
When asked if he felt undermined by the owner’s presence in
the changing room after losing the 2011 quarter final to Manchester United, he
said:
“It is usual for the owner to come into the dressing room after a game to
say hello.
“But at that moment, after losing that game, everyone was a
little bit embarrassed. There was total silence. I tried to break it with a
little speech.”
Despite finishing runners-up in the 2010/2011 season,
Ancelotti suffered the same fate as Wilkins, being sacked almost immediately
after the last game of the season against Everton.
