Enyimba football club of Aba have emerged champions of the Nigerian National premier league for the 7th time, breaking the record in doing so.
Before now no team has won the league up to 7 times. since its maiden edition in 1972.
Previous record holders include;
- Rangers international FC (Enugu) - 6 times (1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1984)
- Shooting stars FC (Ibadan) - 5 times (1976, 1980, 1983, 1995, 1998)
- Iwuayanwu nationale/heartland (Owerri) - 5 times (1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993)
- Kano Pillars (Kano) - 4 times (2008, 2012, 2013, 2014)
- Dolphins ( Port harcourt) - 3 (1987, 2004, 2007)
