Chelsea have agreed a fee worth £29.2m with Premier League champions Leicester City to sign central midfielder N'Golo Kante, according to Le Parisien.
The French international was key to Leicester's charge towards the title last season, and his impression on the Foxes' team in his debut season has made him a wanted man to a number of Europe's biggest clubs.
Real Madrid are believed to be monitoring the player alongside Arsenal, though it's now Chelsea who appear to be on the verge of signing him. Their reported offer comes in at significantly higher than the release clause in Kante's contract - which is said to be between £20m and £22m - and Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG are reported to have made an offer too.
Leicester had offered the player a new deal to stay at the King Power Stadium earlier this summer, but Kante turned it down and is now expected to sign a five-year contract with Antonio Conte's side.
Kante has proven to be one of the
bargain signings in recent Premier League history after the impression
he made last season, following his arrival from
Caen last summer for around £5.6m. His powerful and energetic displays
earned him endless praise, and he ended up winning a place in the PFA
Team of the Season.
His
potential arrival throws the future of Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic
into doubt, and he could end up becoming Chelsea's second big-money
signing of the summer following the capture of forward Michy Batsuhayi
from Ligue 1 club Marseille.
