According to The Telegraph, Real Madrid are
closing in on Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko, which would be a huge
shock given his performances last season.
Sissoko, 26, has blown hot and cold ever
since joining Newcastle from Toulouse in January 2013, scoring 12 goals in 133
games for the Magpies but also turning in some anonymous performances.
Last season, it was more cold than hot for
Sissoko as he went missing for much of the campaign, with Newcastle suffering
relegation to the Championship.
Since then, Sissoko has hit the headlines
with some superb performances for France at this summer's European
Championships, particularly starring in the final against Portugal.
Despite a number of examples over the years
suggesting that teams shouldn't sign players based on their displays at
international tournaments, Sissoko now looks set to earn a big move away from
St. James' Park - and remarkably, his destination could be Real Madrid.
The Telegraph report that, once Manchester
United confirm their move for Paul Pogba, Real Madrid will attempt to complete
a deal for Sissoko, and are believed to be closing on his signature already.
It's claimed that Real believe Sissoko will
pen a three-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Newcastle receiving a
stunning £30m for a player who received plenty of criticism last season.
The report adds that West Bromwich Albion and
manager Tony Pulis had shown an interest in Sissoko before Euro 2016, but his
performances for France have triggered the interest from Real Madrid, as well
as Borussia Dortmund, Everton and Juventus.
