Steve Bruce quit Hull City without a penny in compensation
after he failed to land three transfer targets, writes Neil Moxley in the
Sunday People.
The Geordie left in frustration on Friday following
conversations over the Tigers' policy in the market with vice-chairman Ehab
Allem.
Former Manchester United Double-winner Bruce was caught in
the crossfire as Hull’s owners were trying to sell the club he steered to
Playoff Final victory in May. And his failure to secure three key captures in
the past week led to him running out of patience.
Bruce went into a meeting with Allem determined to push
ahead his recruitment.
People Sport can reveal that he wanted to bring in
Manchester United midfielder Nick Powell before he joined Wigan earlier this
month, plus Ludovic Sane, a centre-half at French side Bordeaux, and his
brother Salif, a defender with Germany's Hannover 96.
But he was unable to cut a deal with his vice-chairman and
decided that his four-year stay in Yorkshire should come to an end.
The whole meeting with Allem took less than an hour and terms
were sorted quickly between the two.
At that time it appeared as though Hull would be the subject
of a takeover but talks have dragged on, leaving both Bruce and the club in
limbo.
However, the manager has grown increasingly frustrated wih
the lack of investment and decided that he was not prepared to put his own
reputation on the line again, leading to the dramatic events of Friday
afternoon.
Bruce flew to the US on Saturday for a holiday but he could
be back in management upon his return
possibly at Championship side Wolves.
