The Irish FA has agreed a four-year contract extension with
adidas which will see the leading global sportswear manufacturer continue to
supply kit and training gear to Northern Ireland teams until at least 2020.
Since adidas returned as the Irish FA’s kit supplier in 2012
the partnership has gone from strength to strength culminating in Northern
Ireland’s participation at EURO 2016, the country’s first major tournament
since 1986.
The home shirt released ahead of the tournament is the bestselling
in the country’s history and all Northern Ireland kit and training gear is
achieving record sales.
Oonagh O’Reilly, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Irish
FA, said:
“adidas is the number one football brand in the world, and an iconic
sportswear brand known globally for its top class design and unrivalled
quality, so therefore I am delighted that our partnership will continue for a
further four years.
“Every Northern Ireland team, from the senior international
side down to our junior Club NI representative sides, will benefit from the
expertise that adidas brings and young supporters who dream of one day pulling
on an international top will be inspired by being able to own Northern Ireland
replica gear made by adidas.”
Gavin Thomson, adidas Managing Director for North Europe,
said:
“adidas are proud to announce the contract extension signed today with
the Irish Football Association which continues a strong relationship and looks
to build upon the success of the team at the recent UEFA European Championships.
“The deal marks the continuation of a long standing
relationship between adidas and the IFA which was first in place at the 1982
and 1986 FIFA World Cups. The contract will see adidas continue to work with
all levels of the Irish FA system, from the first team all the way through to
development and affiliate grassroots programmes.”
