Marouane Fellaini wants to stay and compete for a
place in the Manchester United side despite reported interest from Sunderland.
The midfielder, who earns £100,000-a-week, faces
a battle to get into the United starting line-up, with manager Jose Mourinho
having several midfield options at his disposal.
New Sunderland manager David Moyes, who brought Fellaini to
United from Everton in 2013, has admitted that he would like to sign the
Belgium international, but, according to The Independent, the player has no
intention of leaving Old Trafford for Sunderland.
Reports say that Mourinho has told Fellaini he has
a place at Old Trafford and this has resulted in the Belgian being determined
to remain at the club.
Despite his unorthodox style, Fellaini is still capable of
keeping the ball well, as demonstrated by the fact that he had an average pass
accuracy of 83% in the Premier League last season.
This has been a summer of considerable change for United,
with three players (Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eric Bailly)
having joined the club, while there have been suggestions that several members
of the squad, most notably experienced midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, could
leave.
